Statistically speaking, all lottery numbers are created equal, right?

Here in Texas, that doesn't appear to be the case. Some numbers have historically been less lucky than others- and they all have something in common.

Justgamblers, an online directory for gambling, looked at the numbers for Powerball and Megamillions. Both games are available in Texas and other states.

The unluckiest numbers are all in the 40s. The unluckiest numbers are 47, 46, 43, 41, and 44, respectively. So if you pick your numbers, you may want to choose outside of that number range.

Or, maybe stick it out because they've got to start winning eventually?

Why are 40s so unlucky? There's not a great explanation. The machines that are used for the Powerball are kept under tight lock and key with many fail-safes and constant checks to ensure that the drawing is not tampered with in any way. It's a more complicated process than you would think.

With random chance comes, well, randomness. And these numbers have been randomly "cursed" for a while. It's probably just a fluke caused by chance.

So what are the luckiest numbers?

28 is the luckiest number, followed by 16, 39, 32 and 15.

As a reminder, no matter what numbers you pick, your odds of winning the Powerball is still just 1 in 302,575,350, and your odds of winning Mega Millions is 1 in 292,201,338.

To put that in perspective, your odds of being attacked by a bear is 1 in 2.1 million, meaning you are 144 times more likely to be injured by a bear than win the Powerball. out for bears?
