Mountain Dew is a comer and goer in my world of beverages.  I'm on a bit of a run of not having one.  That may continue, unless I have a fire.

Mountain Dew does have a distinct flavor.  It's hard to describe.  Like a cross between a lime and some flame retardant.

Apparently Mountain Dew contains BVO or brominated vegetable oil.  It is used in beverages to weigh down citrus flavoring, allowing for a more consistent flavor throughout the drink.

BVO is also used as a flame retardant.  It is added to PVC foam and plastics because it slows down the chemical reactions that cause fire.

The EPA has been just fine with BVO and has set limits for amounts in consumable products.  But some patients have been showing signs of BVO poisoning after Mountain Dew binges.  These include skin lesions, memory loss and skin disorders.  And new research has shown that BVO is building up in our bodies over time and showing up in places it doesn't belong, like breast milk.

It may be time to redo the Dew.
